Selina Guinness is a freelance writer, lecturer and facilitator who lives and farms in the Dublin mountains.
Her memoir, The Crocodile by the Door, published by Penguin, was chosen as a book of the year by The Irish Independent, and acclaimed ‘a small masterpiece’ (The Telegraph), & ‘a remarkable book’ (The Guardian). It was shortlisted for Best Biography in the Costa Book Awards (UK), and for the Irish Book Awards Newcomer of the Year. Selina’s fiction & essays have been anthologised in Winter Papers 4, All Over Ireland (Faber), The Hennessy Book of Irish Fiction, 2005 – 2015 (New Island), and The Dublin Review Reader. Her essays, criticism and journalism have appeared in The Dublin Review, The Irish Times, The Sunday Times, The Sunday Business Post, and elsewhere.
Selina has conducted public interviews with an international range of authors, including Arundhati Roy, Karl Ove Knausgaard, Rachel Cusk and Anne Enright.
As Writer-in-Residence with Dun Laoghaire / Rathdown County Council for 2015- 2016, Selina ran The Pale Project workshops and Salon Nights at the Studio, a showcase for debut authors selected by the editors of Ireland’s leading literary magazines. Her courses on writing ‘Creative Non-Fiction’ and ‘Memoir’ have booked out at The Irish Writers’ Centre; and she has facilitated workshops and writing interventions for South Dublin County Council, The Dock and Brewery Lane Theatre.
Selina was Arts Council Irish Writer Fellow 2018 at The Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing in Trinity College Dublin. She is currently finishing a novel set in contemporary Budapest.
